"The Midway Chamber is saddened by the violence toward elected officials over the weekend," said the Midway Chamber in a written statement. "Our condolences go to the family of Representative Melissa Hortman and Mark Hortman, and we hope for a full recovery for Senator John Hoffman and Yvette Hoffman. Senator John Hoffman has been a longtime friend to the Midway Chamber. While working at Ally People Solutions, Sen. Hoffman served on the Midway Chamber board of directors for nine years. His dedication to our community never wavered, and he has always been there for the Chamber and the Midway community. From helping coordinate our legislative panel, to playing drums for the Midway Chamber All-Star Band, his support and care has always been obvious. Now is the time to show our support back to John and Yvette and their family. A GoFundMe page has been set up for donations."
A Go Fund Me campaign had raised nearly $50,000 as of Sunday afternoon, June 15 and over $100,000 by Monday morning. It is being organized by the Fernbrook Elementary School PTO in Maple Grove, where Yvette Hoffman works as a paraprofessional that supports the kindergarten teachers and students. According to the Go Fund Me, "The funds will be distributed directly to the Hoffmans once they are discharged from the hospital and up for visitors. These funds will be used to provide crucial financial comfort during their expected lengthy recovery whether that be to help with household chores, unpaid time from work, expenses for lifestyle adjustments, or covering any unforeseen costs associated with their recovery and changes to their daily lives. We believe these funds will offer significant relief and allow the Hoffmans to prioritize their health and well-being without added financial stress."
