The Capitol Commons – a new community hub located at 546 Rice Street – is officially open. Located at street level, the Commons offers a place where neighborhood residents, local businesses, community partners, and public safety personnel can come together to find partnership, share ideas, create opportunity, and build trust. The space reflects a simple but powerful commitment: that safety and vitality grow best when institutions are visible, approachable, and rooted in the neighborhood.
The Commons’ opening marks an important moment in the development of the Capitol Area Vitality program and reflects the shared commitment of the Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board (CAAPB), the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO), and Saint Paul Port Authority (SPPA) to promoting economic vitality, supporting meaningful engagement, and building connection in the neighborhood.
Specifically, the Capitol Commons offers:
• Space for community meetings, youth and family programming, and neighborhood events and engagement.
• Support for neighborhood residents seeking resources in housing stability, public health, literacy, and job-skills development.
• A visible and accessible point of contact for those looking for more information on the Vitality program and Vitality-related opportunities.
• An environment for local nonprofits, businesses, and government partners to collaborate.
• A platform to hear feedback on, and offer support for, the upcoming reconstruction and revitalization of the Rice Street corridor.
The Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board (CAAPB) is a public Board.
