Mayor Melvin Carter has officially filed for re-election to continue serving as Mayor of Saint Paul.
"Mayor Carter is running on his record of bold leadership through historic challenges and a clear vision for the future," say campaign representatives. "From reducing violent crime to historic lows through our nationally recognized Community-First Public Safety model, to launching college savings accounts for every newborn, forgiving medical debt, and replacing lead water lines at no cost to families – Mayor Carter has led efforts to reimagine how local government can serve its residents."
“Saint Paul has been through an extraordinary series of challenges, and we’ve come through stronger – together,” said Mayor Carter. “We’ve made historic progress, and we’re just getting started.”
According to the press release announcing the campaign:"Under Carter’s leadership, the city has doubled its pace to reconstruct major streets, built more affordable housing than ever before, constructed a new water treatment facility, invested in climate-ready infrastructure, hosted new major events downtown, and created new pathways to economic stability and generational wealth.
"The campaign’s next phase will focus on accelerating that momentum – building new tools to address the fentanyl crisis, ensuring safe and accessible public spaces, creating good-paying union jobs, continuing our downtown recovery, and building quality housing as quickly as possible."
