Hamline Midway neighborhood’s district plan won St. Paul City Council approval Oct. 22. The plan, which was recommended for approval earlier this year by the city’s planning commission, now becomes part of the city’s comprehensive plan. The October action was on the city council consent calendar and there was no discussion.
The plan was prepared by Hamline Midway Coalition (HMC) and a cadre of volunteers. It was reviewed by the city council earlier this year and was the topic of a planning commission public hearing in July.
The plan is a community vision for Hamline Midway in the future and will be used to guide the district council’s work. It covers areas including economic and residential development, parks and recreation, historic preservation, arts and culture, and sustainability and the environment.
HMC’s plan was shaped by staff, board and community members, led by a steering committee. It took more than four years to develop due in large part to the pandemic. HMC’s last plan was completed in 2010.
When the city council adopts a district plan, it becomes part of the city’s comprehensive plan. It is used to guide future land use and zoning decisions, shape public investments and set other community priorities. The plan covers development, parks and recreation, historic preservation, arts and culture, and environment and sustainability. Read the plan at https://hamlinemidway.org/projects/neighborhood-plan.
