Safe Homes Saint Paul submits over 7,500 ballot measure signatures

Safe Homes Saint Paul is a ballot measure campaign to put Renter’s Right to Repair on the ballot in St. Paul this November. Safe Homes Saint Paul gives renters a tool to get timely, quality fixes for needed repairs in their homes. Today, Safe Homes Saint Paul submitted over 7,500 signatures from St. Paul registered voters, exceeding the threshold of 5,342 signatures required to make the ballot by more than 2,000 signatures.
Matt Ehlert, a St. Paul renter and Safe Homes Saint Paul volunteer, had to say: “No one wants to get stuck badgering their landlord about a simple repair or end up having to go to court over a broken outlet. We just want to get it fixed and move on! Renter Right to Repair is a commonsense solution for everyone who calls St. Paul home.”
"Right to Repair is a commonsense policy that allows renters to make basic repairs in their own homes, keeping our buildings up to code and our residents safe, when landlords neglect to do so. The ballot measure process puts the issue before all the voters of St. Paul, and we are excited for them to make renter voices heard on this issue in November,
 say proponents of the measure.
Safe Homes Saint Paul has been endorsed by the Saint Paul Federation of Educators, MICAH, Twin Cities DSA, State Reps Anthena Hollins and Maria Isa, and St. Paul City Council Members HwaJeong Kim, Nelsie Yang, Anika Bowie and Rebecca Noecker. Learn more at https://www.safehomessaintpaul.org/.
