9th graders to Landmark Center
Como’s 3DE (three-dimensional education) program launched for all freshmen in the fall of 2024. The 2025-2026 school year has seen 3DE expand to keep serving this year’s sophomores as well as the new freshmen class.
3DE is funded by Junior Achievement and is part of a national learning model designed to create collaboration among students and business professionals who present real-world case studies for the classroom.
The Minnesota Star Tribune recently published an article highlighting the growth of 3DE in St. Paul, now being utilized by three high schools. Como students and principal Dr. Diana Brown were prominently featured in the piece.
The most recent case study for Como’s ninth graders involved Ramsey County and their quest to increase their talent pipeline. Students presented their recommendations and solutions to county leaders at the Landmark Center downtown in a successful event for nearly 200 participants.
The sophomores have completed a national case challenge for Freddie Mac and a local case challenge for the non-profit Black Men Teach so far this year. Their next task will be for Wells Fargo and will focus on cultural agility.

Blood Drive by HOSA-FPA
Como’s Medical Club and HOSA-Future Health Professionals organized and implemented a successful blood drive during the school day on Nov. 25. The student-led effort was in coordination with the American Red Cross.
Students over 16 with parent consent were donors, along with willing staff members. HOSA-FHP club members were thankful for the generous participation and have more community events planned for 2026 including another blood drive on the day before Valentine’s Day.

Music and celebration
It’s the time of the season for music in the Como Auditorium. The Winter Choir Concert was held on Thursday, Dec. 4. The Como Park Band and Orchestra Winter Concert will take place on Thursday, Dec. 18.
The auditorium was also the spot for the Como Talent Show sponsored by the student council. The end of the day on Tuesday of Thanksgiving week saw a dozen performances including bands, dancers, instrumentalists and vocalists who entertained the packed room.
One other event scheduled for the auditorium in December is the annual Karen Night, scheduled for Friday, Dec. 12 from 4:30-7 p.m. The free event hosted by Karen students and the Karen Language Program will feature traditional dance and song with the opportunity to learn more about the Karen people and their culture.

Lueck wins state swim title
As the Monitor went to press last month, Cougar senior Aleia Lueck had qualified for her fourth consecutive Minnesota state swim meet. She finished on top of the podium at state with a first-place medal for the 50-yard freestyle. Lueck also earned a second-place state medal for the 100 free. Winning state was the perfect way to cap off her phenomenal Cougar swimming career – and add another exclamation point to Como’s spectacular fall sports season.
