LAKESIDE GUITAR FESTIVAL
Guitar virtuosos from different genres and acclaimed artists from Minnesota to Mexico and elsewhere – plus other cool combos, gear swaps and pop ups, and various vendors - will turn Como Lakeside Pavilion into a destination for the Annual Lakeside Guitar Festival (LGF) Aug. 8-9, 2025. Acclaimed Minnesota singer-songwriter Mason Jennings and Mexico’s phenomenal Ehekatl Arizmendi – a gifted composer, interpreter, and custodian of string music traditions from the country’s Costa Chica region – are among the headliners.
HMC ICE CREAM SOCIAL AUG. 14
The Hamline Midway Coalition’s 5th Annual Ice Cream Social has been postponed to Thursday, Aug. 14, from 6-8 p.m. at Hamline Park (Snelling and Lafond).
FROGTOWN CLIMATE FESTIVAL AUG. 16
Frogtown Green’s 2025 Climate Carnival is coming up on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 1-4 p.m. Stop by the Carnival site (at 625 Dale Street, the southwest corner of Lafond and Dale) for carnival games with prizes, special resources and energy-efficient giveaways, and a delicious lunch from Frogtown Green and friends. FROGTOWN ARTS FESTIVAL AUG. 16
The theme for this year’s Frogtown Arts Festival is Legacies Feed Future Flowers. On Aug. 16, from 1-8 p.m., the street outside 825 University Avenue will explode with art, food, and music, and flowers. The Frogtown Arts Festival is a collaboration between the Frogtown Neighborhood Association and 825 Arts. After over a decade of work, 825 Arts will be opening their freshly renovated building to the public for the first time at the festival.
Family Fun Night AUG. 16
The Mali Center will be hosting their 2nd Annual Family Fun Night on Aug. 16 from 6-7:30 p.m. This event will feature: ice cream, a bouncy house, face painting, bracelet making, and balloon animals. Free personal care items and school supplies will be distributed.
Obon Festival AUG. 17
Music, martial arts, singing, dancing, drumming, delicious food, vendors, games, and other aspects of Japanese culture will be featured at the annual Como Park Japanese Obon Festival on the grounds of the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory from 3–9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17. At the end of the Obon festival, lanterns are released onto the water so that the spirits can return to the other world.
