For 25 years, Hamline Midway Elders has been helping older adults remain independent, engaged, and connected to the communities they call home. As the organization marks this milestone anniversary, it is celebrating a quarter century of neighbor-to-neighbor support that has enhanced the lives of countless elders throughout the Hamline Midway area and surrounding neighborhoods.
"Founded on the belief that aging should not mean isolation, Hamline Midway Elders has built an extraordinary network of volunteers and community partners dedicated to helping older adults thrive," said Program and Communications Director Jenia Strom. "Through volunteer-provided transportation to medical appointments, grocery stores, and other essential destinations, as well as a wide range of educational, social, and wellness programs, the organization has become a trusted resource for older adults and their families."
As a member of Minnesota's Live Well at Home network, Hamline Midway Elders is part of a statewide effort to help older adults age successfully in their homes and communities. "Through innovative, community-based services and strong local partnerships, the organization works to ensure that elders have the support they need to remain independent, connected, and engaged," said Strom.
Each year, Hamline Midway Elders connects older adults with practical assistance, meaningful social opportunities, and access to resources that support healthy aging. From transportation services and educational workshops to social gatherings and volunteer engagement, the organization helps ensure that older adults can continue living safely, actively, and independently.
"As the population of older adults continues to grow, the need for community-based support has never been greater," remarked Strom. "Hamline Midway Elders is committed not only to providing these services but also to raising awareness so that every elder in its service area knows help, companionship, and resources are available."
The organization invites community members, volunteers, supporters, and local partners to join in celebrating 25 years of service and to help spread the word about the resources available to older adults throughout the community.
Hamline Midway Elders will mark this occasion at their annual Ice Cream Social which will be held on Tuesday, June 23 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hamline Church (1514 Englewood Avenue). "Come to celebrate, to learn more about this amazing organization, it programs and partner," urges Strom. There will be live music, delicious locally made ice cream, a silent auction with contributions from local business, face painting, blood pressure checks and more.
